What controls 95% of your beliefs, feelings, and behavior?


The subconscious mind plays an astonishingly significant role in shaping our lives, controlling approximately 95% of our beliefs, feelings, and behaviors. While much of our daily functioning is conscious and deliberate, most of our actions and reactions are governed by this hidden aspect of our psyche, acting automatically based on established patterns, experiences, and programming from our past.


From the moment we’re born, we are like sponges, soaking up experiences and information from our surroundings. By the age of seven, a critical window in our development, our subconscious is primarily formed, solidifying many of our core beliefs and perceptions about ourselves and the world. This early programming comes from family dynamics, cultural influences, and societal norms. Children absorb not only the explicit lessons taught to them but also the implicit messages they receive through observation and interaction.


Unfortunately, this means that many default mindsets are filled with misconceptions and false beliefs, often originating from misunderstandings of the world around us. For instance, a child who is repeatedly told they are not good enough may internalize that belief, leading to low self-esteem and a persistent fear of failure in adulthood. Similarly, if a child witnesses conflict or criticism among adults, they may unconsciously develop a belief that relationships are fraught with hardship, which can hinder their ability to form trusting connections later in life.


The power of these subconscious beliefs cannot be overstated. They dictate our responses to various situations, often without us even realizing it. For example, someone who has internalized a belief in their own inadequacy may sabotage their efforts in the workplace or avoid opportunities for advancement simply because their subconscious is steering them according to established patterns formed years ago. This is not an isolated occurrence; it’s a pervasive cycle that countless individuals experience.


Awareness of this subconscious influence is the first crucial step toward breaking free from limiting beliefs. By recognizing that many of our fears and behaviors are not inherently true or permanent, we can begin to challenge and change these ingrained narratives. Techniques such as mindfulness, journaling, or working with a therapist can be effective in uncovering these hidden beliefs, allowing us to confront and reprogram them.


Moreover, reprogramming the subconscious is essential for achieving personal growth. Affirmations, visualization, and other practices can help replace negative scripts with supportive ones, fostering a more positive self-image and empowering mindset. It’s about actively rewriting our internal narratives, shifting the defaults that no longer serve us, and opening ourselves up to opportunities and success.


While our subconscious mind has a powerful hold over our beliefs, feelings, and behaviors, it is possible to rewire these systems. By understanding that our default mindset was largely established in early childhood and may be influenced by misconceptions and false beliefs, we take the first step towards transformation.
